Titan: A Place Like Home?
Documentary about the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft's seven year journey to Saturn's largest moon, Titan, which scientists think may hold clues to how life began here on Earth. In January 2005, the probe plummeted down to the surface, surviving a fiery entry and with its parachutes safely deployed. Titan was revealed as a place that does look a lot like home, but one whose surface is made of ice, where river channels are gouged by liquid methane rain, and volcanoes belch out subzero liquid water.

Malaria: Defeating the Curse
Documentary about the battle to destroy a disease that kills 3,000 people every day - malaria. In the 1960's, China discovered a powerful new anti-malarial drug and decided to keep it a secret. This drug eventually became the basis of an entirely new attack on malaria.

Freak Wave
An investigation into the disappearance of huge cargo vessels at sea, and the possibility that they may have been hit by massive waves. The old mariners' myth of freak waves was previously thought to be a scientific impossibility but, after two cruise liners were almost lost to huge waves in the Southern Ocean, scientists must consider whether they have underestimated the power of the sea.

Flight 587
265 people died when an Airbus operated by American Airlines crashed into the New York suburb of Queens in November 2001. The twin-engined jet took off from John F Kennedy Airport in fine conditions but hit trouble after just 67 seconds. In the following 38 seconds the plane started to disintegrate before nose-diving into the residential Rockaway area of the city.

Everyone aboard was killed (along with five people on the ground) so the crash investigators had to rely on eyewitnesses, recovered parts of the plane and information from both air traffic control and the flight data recorders. The discovery of the Airbus\' vertical tailfin hundreds of metres from the fuselage immediately focussed attention on whether the pilots lost the ability to control the plane.
